Our Beginning

Dock Hall was born in Webster County, Georgia where he was brought up in a Christian and God-Fearing home. His parents were Joe and Hannah Hall. Emma Solomon Hall was born on the Mercer Place in Webster County. She was the daughter of James and Mary Solomon, who was the founder of Shiloh Baptist Church in Preston, Georgia.

Dock and Emma were married in Webster County and later resided in Crawford County. Three children were born to them while living in Roberta, Georgia: Corene, Ozella, and Mary Florence. They returned to Webster County where eight more children were born: John, Beulah, Joseph, Mattie, Dock Jr., Berta, Willie, and Effie. According to family history, several children died during infancy. On April 20, 2007, Berta Hall Wilson, the last surviving child of Dock and Emma, passed away in Columbus, Georgia.

The Hall family site is located about six miles west of Preston, Georgia and has remained in the family for generations. The land consists of fifty-five acres. Dock Hall's occupation was farming. He was also highly sought after for his expert veterinary skills. Dock and Emma were members of Shiloh Baptist Church which was founded by Emma's father. The church was located in Preston, Georgia. Emma Hall died on the Lipton Black Place on December 22, 1932 leaving behind several young children. Dock Hall died on December 4, 1945. They were both laid to rest in Poplar Springs Cemetery in Webster County.

An era has ended but their legacy lives on through us, their children, and grandchildren. They are all finally together again as a family. Faith in God was an integral of their daily walk. It is evident that many of us have not fallen far from the spiritual tree. Let us keep their legacy of faith, hard work, self respect and generosity alive for generations to come. Today each of us should rejoice and be thankful for our heritage.
